What is a Shallow Sand Filter?

A Shallow Sand Filter is an efficient and compact granular media filter primarily used to remove suspended solids, colloids, sediment, and other impurities from water, thereby reducing its turbidity.

Filtration Processing

Raw water enters from the filter inlet and percolates through the filter bed . Suspended materials come into contact and attach to the media particles. Clean water flows through the filtration nozzles and out of the filter via the outlet.

Its unique features include:

1."Shallow Bed" Design: Compared to traditional tall sand filters, it has a wider and shallower sand bed. This design provides a large filtration area with low flow resistance, resulting in lower operating pressure and reduced energy consumption.
2.Efficient Backwashing: When the system detects an increase in pressure differential or reaches a set time, it initiates a fully automatic backwash. Cleaning a single tank typically takes only tens of seconds, achieving efficient scrubbing through a unique internal water distributor with very low water consumption (usually <1% of throughput).
3.Modularity & Continuous Operation: Multiple shallow sand filters can be configured in parallel to form a system. When backwash is required, only one tank is cleaned at a time while the others continue to operate normally, ensuring 24/7 continuous water production without interruption.
